LG 4K Monitors - 27ULxxx series vs the 27UKxxx series

If you are in the market for a 4K monitor, chances are you've come across the LG 27UL series (27UL500, 27UL550, 27UL600, 27UL650, 27UL850) and LG 27UK series (27UK600, 27UK650, 27UK850)

It can be quite confusing, so let's simplify it.

The 27UL series has DisplayPort 1.4 and HDR400 certification.

The 27UK series has DisplayPort 1.2 and is 'HDR ready', whatever that means.

That's it, the 27UL series is a refresh of the 27UK series with HDR certification and DisplayPort 1.4 instead of 1.2 — everything else is identical, same panel, same dimensions, same refresh rate etc...

The other differences between these monitors are primarily whether they have Thunderbolt support, build in speakers and the type of stand they come with, some support tilt and height adjustment whereas others only support tilt.

If you can go for a 27ULxxx monitor over a 27UKxxx monitor, you should definitely go for it, you'll be getting a monitor that has more features.

Here in the UK at the time of writing the 27UL series monitors are also cheaper than the equivalent 27UK monitors. The 27UL650 can currently be had for £299, whereas the inferior 27UK650 still retails for around £430.
